Hero Appreciation Payments are a special benefit exclusively for Trupanion Certified hospitals. Veterinary teams can earn these payments by submitting medical records for our mutual clients and invoices for direct-to-hospital payment through our free vet portal.

When you provide us medical records, submit invoices for direct payment through vet portal, and allow us to pay our share of the bill directly to you, we save time and money. Hero Appreciation Payments allow us to share those savings with you, and recognize your time and effort in submitting invoices and medical records. This is a small way we can say thank you for the amazing and inspiring work you do every day.

Becoming Trupanion Certified means your hospital has completed the necessary steps to understand and utilize Trupanion’s vet portal. This certification ensures that your hospital is set up for success, and can fully leverage the benefits of Hero Appreciation Payments.

• Receive $8.00 per completed medical record request for mutual clients, where the insured client has selected your hospital as their primary care facility. This will be paid once in the life of the pet.
• Receive $2.25 per paid invoice, when the claim is submitted through vet portal, is eligible for coverage, and is submitted as “pay to hospital".

All eligible hospitals will be asked to provide information necessary to receive payment and to accurately report these payments. U.S hospitals will need to submit a W9 Tax Form. Canadian Hospitals do not need to submit this form.

Yes, Hero Appreciation Payments earned by Canadian-based hospitals are taxable. If your Hospital receives more than $500 from Trupanion during the year, you can expect to receive a CRA Form T4A reporting these earnings.

Yes, Hero Appreciation Payments earned by U.S.-based hospitals are taxable, regardless of your hospital’s federal tax classification. If your hospital receives more than $600 from Trupanion during the year, you can expect to receive an IRS Form 1099 reporting these earnings.

Payments will be made quarterly (following the submission of the necessary banking information prior to the end of the quarter). Your earnings will be sent by ACH/EFT to the bank account of your hospital's choice. You will receive a quarterly earnings report that highlights the amount and details of your earnings.

Hospitals have used their earnings to drive staff morale with team parties, invested the money into training and development efforts, or compensated their team members with bonuses or raises.
